Employee Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI)

This provides coverage for the business against claims made by employees for:

  • Discrimination based on sex, (sexual orientation),age or disability for example.
  • Wrongful Termination
  • Harassment including but not limited to sexual harassment by anyone in the organization to another employee
  • Other employment related issues such as failure to promote, humiliation etc.

Many companies lack a legal department or handbook detailing policies and procedures that guide hiring, disciplining or terminating employees. YOU MAY NOT BE GUILTY BUT THE LEGAL FEES TO PROVE IT CAN BE MORE THAN THE DAMAGES PAID. This coverage is vital if you have any employees. The cost for this insurance is not prohibitive.

Most policies are issued on a “Claims made” policy form which means coverage begins on the date of issue. Should you switch companies or policies be sure to have a retroactive (retro date) on the new policy. This will insure the new policy covers acts prior to the new policy date.
